Referral criteria

When to consider a referral

Effica accepts referrals for a broad range of menopause-related symptoms, questions and treatment needs.

Our comprehensive intake and Clinical Intelligence™ help the care team understand the patient's menopause status, symptom pattern and the areas having the greatest impact on quality of life and well-being. This provides a valuable clinical baseline, even when symptoms are complex or the relationship to perimenopause or menopause is unclear.

The assessment also supports patient education, a more complete analysis of symptoms and health factors, and consideration of appropriate hormonal and non-hormonal treatment options.

Consider referring patients experiencing or seeking support with:

  • Perimenopause or menopause symptoms, including hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, mood changes, cognition or brain fog, fatigue and other changes affecting quality of life
  • Uncertainty about whether symptoms may be related to perimenopause or menopause
  • Menopausal hormone therapy, including initiation, risk assessment or optimization of current therapy
  • Non-hormonal treatment options, including benefits, risks, initiation or optimization
  • Genitourinary syndrome of menopause, including vaginal, vulvar, urinary or bladder symptoms
  • Sexual-health concerns or low libido
  • Contraception during perimenopause
  • Patient education or a baseline menopause assessment
  • Complex symptoms, health conditions or treatment considerations
  • Other menopause-related concerns

Patients do not need to have a confirmed diagnosis or a straightforward presentation before being referred. When in-person examination, testing or local follow-up is needed, Effica will recommend appropriate next steps.

What happens when you refer?

Simple, Connected & Comprehensive.

  1. 01

    Refer

Submit the referral with your patient's consent.

  2. 02

    We connect with her

Our team contacts her directly and guides her through what comes next.

  3. 03

    We build the clinical picture

She completes Effica's structured intake and Clinical Intelligence brings together relevant symptoms, history and health information.

  4. 04

Collaborative care, followed by medical assessment

Your patient spends dedicated time with one of our Collaborative Care Practitioners, who is a menopause-trained RN or Clinical Pharmacist who explores her symptoms and concerns, provides education and helps clarify her priorities. A clinical summary is then prepared for our Effica physician, who conducts the medical assessment and determines appropriate treatment, investigations, referrals and follow-up.

  5. 05

    We close the loop

Your patient returns to your care with a clear path forward. We provide you with a comprehensive assessment summary and treatment plan, including relevant findings, treatment initiated, investigations or referrals, and recommended follow-up.

When ongoing menopause follow-up is needed, Effica can provide it while keeping you informed and connected to her care.

Questions before you refer?

Our team is happy to confirm eligibility, discuss the pathway in your province or walk through what your patient can expect.
